As the world thinks about the passing of the Pope, I can't help but recall how important his foreign travels and visits were to our 5th and 6th grade Current Events classes. Challenger, Mt.St. Helens, Beirut, Geraldine Ferraro, Chernobyl, and the Pope—grade school in the eighties.
We're no longer a religious family, but I'm sure my Grandma Mickey has some thoughts on John Paul II this week. Once Catholic, you're kinda always Catholic.
